While the Group 1 races in Perth have finished up for the season, there are still plenty of stakes events to enjoy during the Ascot Summer Racing Carnival including the $125,000 Group 3 A.J. Scahill Stakes (1400m) this Saturday, December 11th.
With a smaller but top-class field of 10 gallopers set to start, the 2010 A.J. Sachill Stakes is a great showdown to enjoy a punt on.

Waratah’s Secret is the pronounced favourite in the A.J. Scahill Stakes betting markets, the David Harrison-trained Oratorio gelding coming off a number of consistent runs at Ascot this preparation.
Four-year-old Waratah’s Secret took out the Group 3 Prince of Wales Stakes (1200m) here back in October before running second to Ma Ma Machine in the Group 3 Colonel Reeves Stakes (1100m) on November 13.
Most recently Waratah’s Secret finished a credible fourth to upset winner Hadabeclorka in the Group 2 Winterbottom Stakes (1200m) and despite their wide barrier nine draw for Saturday continues to gain support from the punters.
Winterbottom Stakes’ winner Hadabeclorka, who caused a boil-over winning the feature as a $41 roughie, is also backing up in the A.J. Scahill Stakes on Saturday.
Nine-year-old Hurricane Sky gelding Hadabeclorka won’t be found at the same generous price in the odds this time round, however, currently one of the single figure chances in the online markets.
Due to jump from barrier two with regular rider William Pike aboard, the veteran is in career best form and should handle the 59kg weight without any problems.
Other top picks in the wide open betting market for this year’s A.J. Scahill Stakes include Winterbottom Stakes’ runner-up King Kool Kat drawn on the rails, the Fred Kersley-trained Scenic eight-year-old Marasco and Danetime gelding Megatic coming off a gallant third to Gathering in the Group 1 Railway Stakes (1600m) on November 20.
Due to run as Race 6 at Ascot Racecourse on Saturday afternoon, the 2010 A.J. Scahill Stakes is set to start at 7:20pm (AEDST).
